| Internet
Explorer 6 Compatibility |
A problem has been identified in Internet Explorer 6 that can cause web pages
to hang. This problem is due to a bug in Internet Explorer 6. The bug occurs
when the privacy settings in Internet Explorer 6 are changed to the
"Prompt" settings, as required by Cookie Pal. The bug occurs though,
even on systems without Cookie Pal installed as long as the privacy options are
changed this way in IE6. Microsoft have described this problem on their web
site, but have not committed to providing a fix as yet.
In order to help work-around this problem
we have included some new options in Cookie Pal 1.7b and later versions. If you
have an earlier version of Cookie Pal you can upgrade to version 1.7b for free. Click
here for information on upgrading to this version of Cookie Pal.
With Cookie Pal 1.7b or later, we recommend
trying the following Cookie Pal settings to help solve the problem:
- Enable the new "Use IE6 internal cookie
handling" option on the Configure tab in Cookie Pal.
- Enable the "Accept cookies that
expire" option on the Filters tab in Cookie Pal to accept cookies that
expire in the current session automatically.
The above options will resolve many problems. If
you still experience page hangs then you may also want to try this:
- Enable the "Reject third-party
cookies" option on the Filters tab in Cookie Pal to automatically
reject cookies from web sites other than the one you are viewing.
If you still have problems with web pages hanging
then try this also:
- Enable the "Use IE6 internal
filters" option on the Configure tab in Cookie Pal. This will allow
Cookie Pal to communicate with IE6 so that IE6 will accept or reject cookies
on behalf of Cookie Pal.
The only drawback to using these options is that
Cookie Pal will not be able to report on the Session tab cookies that have been
processed by IE6. It will still report any cookies that it processes by itself.
